Finally I finished the tops yesterday, from the "Britt" magazine This is the magazine that Christy @ "Sew Much Fabric, Sew Little Time" sent me, I wrote about it a couple posts back. They were fun to make and the pattern didn't need lots of alterations as I usually have to do. There was a slight mishap with the black, white & yellow blouse just as I was completing it. When I was doing the final press along the hem I had a "brain fart" and put the tip of the hot iron directly on the hem and melted the fabric...Can you believe this, I just wanted to scream! I felt like thumping myself in the head. Well to save the blouse I decided to just turn the hem up again and restitch it. That worked out OK, but of course it shortened the blouse more that I really wanted to, but it was better than loosing the blouse. Don't you just hate when something really dumb happens just as you are almost finished? I would have shown me wearing them but I was to lazy to set up the tripod, maybe I'll post pictures wearing them later.
Yea it usually happens when I overthink. Most times it's just better for me not to think at all lol.
ReplyDeleteThe tops still look good. Great choice in fabric.
Cute blouses!! One time I was finished making dress and there was a string hanging on the dress trying to cut the string I cut the dress! It couldn't be saved!I wanted to cry!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to save the blouse and they both look great. You are not alone, I've scorched a few garments and now use a pillow slip while ironing. I purchased them at a $.99 store - so the fabric is really thin and solved my scorching fiasco, I don't iron without it.
ReplyDeletethe tops look great. i totaly understand how u feel when u accidentally 'burn' the fabric. it happens to me too. Glad u sort it out :)
ReplyDeleteGood save! We all have those sewing mishaps. Bummer! Still your tops are very nice.
ReplyDeleteNice blouses, I love the pleated neckline...I am glad you were able to save the one that you scorched....
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies, they were easy and fun to make. I'm actually wearing the yellow & black one today.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your tops, despite the snafu. I am queen of making these mistakes, but mine are rarely salvageable. I really like the fabric you used. Glad you could save it.
ReplyDeleteThat has to have happened to anyone who sews I know I've experienced it. Cute tops.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful tops, mishap and all. I finally started using a sole plate and I know it has save my behind on more than one occasion.
ReplyDeleteI love these tops. If I didn't have a mishap I would think something was wrong!
ReplyDeleteYour blouses look nice. Things happen..I'm sure I have my share in store!
ReplyDeleteOHHH! I love those tops! I'm glad you were able to save the one from the iron's rotten plan. Been there but I could'nt save my garment.
ReplyDeletewell I think you have to be very optimistic about sewing because things can go either way especially when you are dealing with hot equipment and shape cutting tools. I've written about so many of my blunders but its always good to be able to save the garment. Great tops, I've never heard of that magazine before so thanks for introducing it to us
ReplyDeletetwo nice tops and great save of the second one. This has happened to me a few times, and I did scream.
ReplyDeleteHey can't believe I just found your blog. I love the blouses!
ReplyDeleteGreat blouses, glad you could save the one from the iron mishap. That magazine looks neat.
ReplyDeleteWow, I enjoy reading your blog! Remind me of the days I use to sew. I don't sew anymore. My mother is the one that does all the sewing in the family. But as she has gotten older and curtains and things are sold ready made, she hardly sews any more.
ReplyDeleteShe always use to tell me that I was a very untidy sewer. My cloths would look good on the outside but very untidy on the reverse side! LOL!!!
